Oktoberfest celebrations in the United States

Overview

Oktoberfest celebrations and German heritage events are being held across various regions in the United States.

In late August, festivities were scheduled for Columbus, Ohio, and Missoula, Montana. Columbus events included keg tapping ceremonies and a “Barktoberfest” dog adoption event. In Missoula, celebrations featured authentic cuisine, music, and qualifying rounds for the Montana State Stein Holding Championships, with winners advancing to a national competition in Cincinnati.

By mid-September, celebrations expanded to include Detroit and Cincinnati. In Metro Detroit, establishments such as the Dakota Inn Rathskeller, Kuhnhenn Brewing Company, and Jacoby’s biergarten offered imported beers, live German brass bands, and stein-hoisting competitions. In Cincinnati, the 50th annual Oktoberfest Zinzinnati was scheduled for September 17 to 20. Recognized as the “second-largest Oktoberfest celebration in the world,” the event is supported by regional venues including Kreimer’s Bier Haus, Hofbrauhaus, and MadTree Brewing, which features seasonal beer flights and a Zieglerfest event.

Additional celebrations emerged in the Pittsburgh area. Through early October, breweries and local communities hosted themed dinners and Barktoberfest events. The third annual Oktoberfest Pittsburgh, branded this year as ‘Prostburgh’, opened in Market Square with a ceremonial keg tapping by Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato and Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor. Running through October 11, the festival includes live German music, stein-holding competitions, a Ferris wheel, and a snack tent on the Roberto Clemente Bridge. Offerings include local selections like Brew Gentlemen’s Gold Oktoberfest Märzen alongside imported beers from the Bavarian brewery Weihenstephaner.

In southeast Michigan, Busch’s Fresh Food Market scheduled a storewide celebration from September 21 to October 4 across 16 locations, featuring German-inspired products such as fresh brats, soft pretzels, and house-made Sauerkraut Bread.
