Olympiacos wins 6th Crete International Basketball Title

Overview

Olympiacos has secured its third consecutive title at the 6th Crete International Basketball Tournament (IBT) by defeating Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) 87-77 in the final.

In the championship match, Olympiacos maintained control through efficient scoring and defensive play, despite the absence of key players such as Sasha Vezenkov and Kostas Papanikolaou. Emby Ndiaye led the team with 16 points, while Jean Monegro contributed 12 points in his unofficial debut, and Thomas Heurtel added 11 points. Although Crvena Zvezda mounted a late surge to narrow the margin, Olympiacos had previously established a lead as high as 20 points to seal the victory. For Crvena Zvezda, Jordan Nwora and David Kramer led the scoring with 16 points each.

The tournament, held at the ‘Dyo Oraki’ Indoor Gymnasium in Heraklion, featured competition against Fenerbahce, Armani Milano, and Crvena Zvezda, alongside a 3on3 event benefiting the SOS Children's Villages of Crete. Following the match, Olympiacos head coach George Bartzokas expressed satisfaction with the new players and the high level of competition, noting that while team cohesion and defensive readiness are still developing, the quality of play remains high.

This victory marks the fifth time Olympiacos has won this tournament and serves as a preseason milestone as the team prepares for official duties, including the EuroLeague Super Cup.
