Oman energy production surge and fiscal growth

Overview

In the first half of 2026, Oman experienced a significant surge in energy production and fiscal revenue. According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information, oil output rose 10.6% to an average of 1.094 million barrels per day, while natural gas production increased 6.7% to 29.54 billion cubic metres. This production growth, coupled with an average crude price of $80.9 per barrel, contributed to a modest 2.4% increase in export volumes, totaling approximately 155.2 million barrels.

By August 2026, these production trends translated into strengthened national finances. Oman’s public revenues grew by 13% to approximately 6.602 billion Omani riyals ($17.14 billion). This increase was primarily driven by a 10% rise in net oil revenues and a 32% surge in net gas revenues. While public spending also rose by 9% to support developmental and economic transformation projects, total public debt remained relatively stable, increasing by only 0.3% compared to 2025.

On the international market, Indian refineries have actively engaged with Oman’s increased supply. Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited (MRPL) secured 1 million barrels of Omani crude at a premium of roughly $3 per barrel above the Brent benchmark. Simultaneously, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) purchased 4 million barrels of West African crude. These procurement strategies reflect India’s ongoing efforts to diversify its import portfolio and ensure energy security amid volatile global markets.
