On the Road youth road safety project in Italy

The ‘On the Road’ project, an initiative focused on promoting road safety, legality, and responsible citizenship among young people, has expanded across different Italian regions.

In Bari, the Bari Local Police and the association ‘Ragazzi On the Road’ launched the first edition of the project at the Fiera del Levante. The program provides youth with hands-on experience alongside police officers to foster a culture of responsibility and safety within schools and peer groups.

Following this, the 2026 edition of the project launched in Agrigento. Coordinated by the Prefecture of Agrigento and operated by the association Ragazzi On the Road APS, this iteration involves Anas personnel and law enforcement. Participants engage in activities such as monitoring road networks via the Anas Territorial Operations Room and visiting infrastructure like the Maddalusa viaduct to understand road network management and emergency interventions.

The first Sicilian edition of the program has now concluded in Agrigento. The week-long initiative involved 21 local youths and was established through a protocol involving the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and the ‘Ragazzi On the Road Aps’ association.

During the program, participants shadowed various emergency and security services, including the State Police, Carabinieri, Firefighters, Coast Guard, and Anas road maintenance personnel. The experience included observing traffic monitoring and participating in emergency construction site simulations. At the closing ceremony, participants received certificates from Anas staff to recognize their engagement in learning about infrastructure maintenance and public safety responsibilities.
