Orthodox religious services and ordinations in Greece

In late August and mid-September 2026, various religious services and ordinations were conducted by Orthodox Metropolitans in Greece.

In Thessaly, Metropolitan Timotheos presided over services in Karditsa to mark the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God. During these events, he also conducted the ordination of Deacon Akakios Deligiannis to the priesthood in Farsala, emphasizing that divine calling often selects the humble.

In Serres, Metropolitan Theologos presided over a divine liturgy at the Holy Temple of Evangelistria on August 30, 2026, where deacon Michael Alexoudis was ordained to the priesthood. Drawing inspiration from the Gospel parable of the vineyard, the Metropolitan described clergy as ‘stewards of the divine mysteries’ and ‘workers in the vineyard of Christ,’ noting that the ministry requires significant reserves of faith, virtue, love, patience, philanthropy, and humility.

On September 13, 2026, several liturgical events occurred across the country. In Veria, Metropolitan Panteleimon of Veria, Naousa, and Campania presided over a Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Saint Alexander in Alexandreia, where Konstantinos Karkamanis was ordained to the rank of Reader. During this service, the Metropolitan reflected on the Cross as a source of redemption. He also conducted a blessing ceremony at the Greek Police Training School.

In Volos, Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias presided over a Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Agios Gerasimos, discussing the theological significance of the Cross. In Thessaloniki, Metropolitan Philotheos welcomed the Holy Relics of Saint David the Elder to the Panoramas Chapel, initiating a festival that includes a church consecration. Additionally, in Agiopigi, Metropolitan Timotheos celebrated the Feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos, addressing the Virgin Mary’s role in salvation and modern demographic challenges.
