Paraná urban sustainability and administrative reforms
Overview
The Municipality of Paraná has introduced several urban sustainability and administrative reforms. The city began a comprehensive renewal of its Bicivía public bicycle system, which includes a new visual identity and station upgrades to improve visibility and accessibility. This renovation process involves phased station reactivations, starting with Costanera Baja.
In addition to mobility improvements, the city launched the Ecovecinales Program to optimize recycling through neighborhood-based waste separation and the installation of green containers. This environmental and sustainability initiative is designed as a territorial and institutional strategy to connect neighborhood awareness efforts with the value chain at treatment plants.
The program’s pilot phase will begin in five neighborhoods, starting with San Martín. Implementation measures include environmental education workshops, the installation of new green containers for recyclables, and the deployment of a Mobile Green Point. According to Environment Undersecretary Maximiliano Pérez Viecenz, the program aims to “bring source separation and containment directly to the city’s neighborhoods.”
Alongside these environmental initiatives, Paraná implemented a new commercial licensing regime. This system simplifies the authorization process for low-complexity businesses by allowing immediate operation upon documentation submission and utilizing QR codes for digital verification.
