Partizan Belgrade's EuroLeague winning streak ends

Overview

Partizan Belgrade’s historic undefeated start to the EuroLeague season has come to an end. Following a record-breaking three consecutive victories—the club’s first such opening in 35 years—the team suffered its first defeat with an 86-76 loss against Real Madrid at the Movistar Arena.

Despite a 19-point performance from Carlik Jones, Partizan struggled to overcome a significant deficit. Real Madrid secured the win behind 13 points from Theo Maledon, maintaining control through strong defensive play despite injuries to key players such as Sergi Llull and Gabriel Deck. Coach Joan Peñarroya attributed the defeat to poor shooting percentages from both the three-point line and the free-throw line.

Following the EuroLeague setback, Partizan returned to winning form in the ABA League. The team secured a 99-78 victory against Vienna at the Aleksandar Nikolić Hall. Despite resting Carlik Jones, the squad maintained control throughout the match, led by 15 points each from Luka Vildoza and Joevern Bandja Si, and 14 points from Nikola Tanasković.

Prior to these recent results, club president Ostoja Mijailović had expressed satisfaction with the team’s cohesion but cautioned against “premature euphoria,” noting that the roster lacked the depth required for a long season. The club continues to navigate institutional challenges, including its candidacy for a permanent spot in the proposed 24-club EuroLeague expansion for the 2027/28 season.
