Passenger growth in Valencian Community airports

Overview

Airports in the Valencian Community of Spain have reported significant increases in passenger traffic throughout 2026.

Castellón Airport reached record passenger numbers in September, with 45,900 travelers, marking a 15.8% increase compared to the previous year. This follows a summer season of three consecutive record-breaking months. Officials indicate that the airport’s growth is driven by regular routes and charter operations, supporting a forecast that 2026 will be the most successful year in its history.

Similarly, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport and Valencia Airport reported substantial growth for the first nine months of the year. Alicante-Elche recorded over 16.8 million passengers, a 10.1% increase, largely driven by international markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland. Valencia Airport saw 9.7 million passengers, an 8.3% increase, with Italy emerging as a leading international market in September.

Broadening the scope to the wider Aena network, the group reported 31.67 million passengers in September, a 4.2% increase compared to the previous year. While regional performance remains strong, Aena noted that rising operational costs impacted its EBITDA margin, which fell from 56.4% to 54.5% during the first half of the year. Analysts from Renta 4, AlphaValue, and Intermoney maintain a positive outlook for the company, projecting record financial results ahead of its October 28 presentation. This optimism is supported by a 4% increase in Spanish air traffic during the third quarter, improved regulated tariff settings, and rising passenger consumption.
