Patlabor franchise media expansions
Overview
The Patlabor franchise is expanding through new media releases in film and gaming.
In the gaming sector, Good Smile Company and developer Chime Corporation have announced ‘Patlabor the Case Files’, a 3D action game for PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) scheduled for release on September 17, 2026. This marks the franchise’s return to gaming since 2005. The title features mecha combat with Labors such as Ingram, Griffon, and Zero Type. Gameplay includes main missions from the perspective of Special Vehicles Section 2, ‘Another Side’ missions from rival perspectives, and a Simulator Mode with shooting ranges and Labor-versus-Labor battles. A deluxe edition is available, including a soundtrack of 30 songs by Kenji Kawai and 72-hour early access starting September 14. The game will support multiple languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
In cinema, the final installment of the Patlabor EZY trilogy, ‘Patlabor EZY File 3’, is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on March 5, 2027. The film, titled “Omocha no Kuni” (Land of Toys), is set in 2030s Japan and follows Section 2 as they investigate various unsettling events in Tokyo.
