Philippines fintech infrastructure and service expansion
Overview
Financial technology providers in the Philippines are expanding their service capabilities, focusing on both remittance infrastructure and digital asset accessibility.
To support overseas remittances, firms like GCash have strengthened cross-border payment capabilities, including waiving fees and accepting international government IDs to facilitate emergency aid during Middle East disruptions. GCash has further expanded its international reach through a partnership with UAE-based fintech platform botim money, enabling direct wallet-to-wallet remittances for Overseas Filipino Workers in the United Arab Emirates. This integration allows users in the UAE to transfer funds directly into GCash wallets for bills, savings, and daily essentials. Additionally, the Palawan Group of Companies partnered with AltPayNet to increase international reach through the PalawanPay app and its network of more than 3,800 Palawan Express Pera Padala branches.
Furthering digital service expansion, GCash has enhanced its GCrypto platform in partnership with the Philippine Digital Asset Exchange (PDAX). This allows verified users to open accounts in approximately 30 seconds and trade up to 55 different cryptocurrencies with seamless fiat-to-crypto conversion and zero cash-in fees. The platform also supports direct transfers to and from external crypto wallets or exchanges without requiring users to liquidate holdings first.
