Phu Quoc Airport expansion
Entities: Sun Group · Nguyen Ba Quan · Long Thanh International Airport · Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) · Trịnh Như Long
Overview
By late July 2026 the 3.3 km concrete second runway at Phú Quốc International Airport had its pavement completed and was undergoing final checks on lighting, signage and navigation equipment, with a calibration flight scheduled for 27 July. The runway will accommodate wide‑body aircraft such as the Boeing 787, Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 ahead of the 2027 APEC summit, supporting the airport’s Phase 1 capacity goal of 24 million passengers and a Phase 2 target of up to 50 million.
The second runway at Long Thanh International Airport in Đồng Nai province also finished its concrete surface after 14 months. Authorities expect the runway to be fully completed by the end of September 2026, with test flights planned for December 2025 and commercial operations projected for December 2026. The combined runway expansion projects are valued at roughly VND 22 trillion (US$836 million).
Meanwhile, Liên Khương Airport’s rebuilt 3,250‑metre runway and taxiways have completed calibration flights and are set to reopen on 19 August, initially serving six domestic routes from Da Lạt and an international service to Kuala Lumpur from early September.
