Phu Tho hospital livestreaming disorder prosecution

Authorities in Phu Tho Province have initiated criminal proceedings against six individuals for “disturbing public order” following a disruptive livestreaming incident at Lac Viet Friendship Hospital.

The group, comprising the biological parents, parents-in-law, aunt, and uncle of a 27-year-old woman, allegedly used social media to broadcast live, shout, and spread unverified information. The conflict originated from the woman’s false claims; she misled her family by stating that Lac Viet Friendship Hospital had diagnosed a fetal abnormality requiring termination, when in fact, a different facility had confirmed she was not pregnant.

Believing these claims, the family confronted hospital staff, causing significant operational disruptions. The Facebook livestream attracted between 17,000 and 20,000 views. Major General Nguyen Minh Tuấn, Director of the Phu Tho Provincial Police, characterized the case as “highly unusual,” noting that multiple sets of extended relatives were prosecuted due to a single unverified broadcast.

Police are currently reviewing electronic evidence from approximately 700 social media accounts to investigate individuals who shared or commented negatively on the incident to determine their level of violation.
