Polish cities tram and road works

July 2026 saw extensive street and tram disruptions in Kraków, Elbląg and Warsaw, including the reconstruction of Grzegórzecka Street, event‑driven closures for the Ironman 70.3 triathlon, and major roadworks on Krajewskiego and Zajączka streets.

In August the scope widened. Kraków announced that its temporary bus‑replacement service to Bronowice would become permanent after a review of the tram‑track works, and it introduced a series of tram adjustments for the first four August weekends: line 1 was shortened, lines 3, 8 and 16 were rerouted, and a temporary shuttle line 93 was launched.

Other cities launched or continued upgrades. Łódź began full reconstruction of Stare Złotno street, adding new asphalt and sidewalk repairs. Gdańsk entered the final phase of traffic management at the Hucisko junction, with lane reductions and pedestrian‑crossing closures through mid‑August. Olsztyn limited the Powstańców Węgierskich viaduct to a single lane per direction for four months. Bydgoszcz completed resurfacing and bike‑path work at the J. Sułkowskiego–Kamienna intersection, restoring normal bus service. Kielce finished pavement and speed‑reduction installations on Malików and Batalionów Chłopskich streets. Warsaw’s Solidarności and Jana Pawła II avenues began a second tram‑track reconstruction stage on 3 August, reopening several tram lines while keeping key road sections closed.

These coordinated projects illustrate a nationwide period of overlapping tram, road and public‑transport disruptions across multiple Polish cities throughout July and August 2026.
