Polish MEP controversy involving Brazilian citizens

Overview

Polish Member of the European Parliament Dominik Tarczyński drew scrutiny after posting photos of two Brazilian women on X (formerly Twitter) during the first round of the 2026 Brazilian elections. The women were photographed in front of the Consulate-General of Brazil in Warsaw wearing red accessories, a Workers' Party (PT) pin, and making an ‘L’ hand gesture in support of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Tarczyński, a right-wing politician, labeled the request for the women’s identities as “URGENTE” (urgent) and advocated for their deportation, citing Polish laws against the promotion of communism. Following the post, the two women sought assistance from the Brazilian Embassy in Warsaw due to feeling threatened.

The incident has led to professional consequences, as the multinational company Procter & Gamble (P&G) confirmed the dismissal of one of the Brazilian employees involved. The situation has sparked a broader debate regarding freedom of expression and the professional repercussions of public political stances.

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) confirmed it has been notified and stated that the consular sector in Warsaw is available to assist the citizens if requested. While Polish law restricts the promotion of totalitarian regimes, authorities have not publicly confirmed the opening of any formal legal proceedings regarding the incident.
