Polish urban public transport adjustments

Public transportation authorities in several Polish cities are implementing adjustments to accommodate the transition from summer to the new school year.

Initially, cities such as Łódź and Warsaw introduced specialized pricing to assist students and groups. Łódź implemented the ‘Bilet Junior’ to provide affordable monthly and annual passes for primary school students. In Toruń, MZK is reinstating school day schedules starting September 1, including the return of bus lines 21, 22, 39, 80, and 152, as well as tram lines 2, 4, and 7 to Kościuszki Street. In Warsaw, ZTM is transitioning from summer schedules by increasing tram and metro frequencies during peak hours. Following renovations in Aleje Jerozolimskie, trams will return to using the Poniatowski Bridge, though construction continues on Aleja Niepodległości and Puławska Street.

Municipalities are also reminding students of the documentation needed for free transit. In Suwałki, students must present both a school ID and a valid Suwalska Karta Mieszkańca, which can be verified via the eCityUp app. In the Szczecin Metropolitan Area, students must visit a ZDiTM Customer Service Point in person to extend their Szczecińska Karta Aglomeracyjna (SKA) for the 2026/2027 school year, providing their SKA card, a school ID, and a certificate of residence.
