President Mahama concludes Ahafo Region development tour
Overview
President John Dramani Mahama concluded his two-day ‘Resetting Ghana Tour’ of the Ahafo Region, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, and agricultural development.
During the visit, the President inspected several key initiatives, including the Tepa–Goaso road under the ‘Big Push Infrastructure Development Programme’, the Ntontroso Bridge, and a poultry, meat, and feed processing plant in Bechem. The Bechem facility is intended to establish the area as the ‘chicken capital of Ghana’ by 2027. In the agricultural sector, Mahama reviewed the Feed Ghana Programme, which aims to establish 50 Farmers Services Centres, and inspected a solar-powered irrigation system in Dantano.
Regarding infrastructure delivery, Mahama commended Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza for accelerating the ‘Big Push’ programme, expressing optimism that most contracts awarded by the end of 2025 will be completed by the end of 2027. The President also highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships, praising mining company Newmont for collaborating with the state on infrastructure and urging other corporations to adopt similar cost-sharing models.
In healthcare, the President reviewed nearly completed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds. Senior Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari defended the administration’s progress through the National Health Insurance Scheme and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. Throughout the tour, Mahama addressed economic recovery and preparations for Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary, assuring local leaders that the region would receive its equitable share of national development.
