Punjab welfare and employment initiatives under Bhagwant____
Overview
In mid-July 2026, Punjab’s chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted his administration’s focus on secure public employment by regularising 516 daily-wage forest workers and restoring promotions for senior officers. The move was framed as part of the state’s “Mission Rozgar” drive, which claims to have created over 68,000 government posts since 2022.
A week later, Mann broadened the welfare agenda with a technology-driven programme to issue 1 million new ration cards under the “No Cash, No Farmaish” platform, targeting vulnerable households, migrant workers and families newly eligible under the National Food Security Act. The rollout, detailed on 21 July, includes providing 5 kg of wheat and a “Meri Rasoi” nutrition kit to beneficiaries. Applications were scheduled to open on 22 July via digital and physical channels to ensure transparency and minimize corruption.
On 7 August, the administration continued its employment drive by distributing appointment letters to 866 newly selected candidates in Mohali. These roles included 636 positions within the Health and Family Welfare Department, such as pharmacists and staff nurses, alongside positions in the Home, Cooperation, and Defence Services Welfare departments. This latest round brought the total number of government jobs provided by the current administration to 69,094. Mann reiterated that all recruitments are merit-based and free from political influence or bribery.
