RC Strasbourg transfer market activity

Overview

RC Strasbourg is engaged in significant squad restructuring through various transfer activities. The club has finalized the transfer of Costa Rican defender Jeyland Mitchell from Sturm Graz for a total package valued at eight million euros. Mitchell, a 21-year-old international with 25 caps for Costa Rica, has signed a contract with the Ligue 1 club running until 2031.

The move represents a record-breaking sale for Sturm Graz, marking the most expensive departure of a defender in the Austrian club’s history. Sturm Graz had previously acquired Mitchell permanently for approximately 1.8 million euros following a loan spell from Feyenoord. As a result of a sell-on clause, Feyenoord is expected to receive a financial windfall from the transaction.

To manage these arrivals and adhere to UEFA financial regulations, Strasbourg is utilizing revenue from substantial player sales, including the departures of Julio Enciso and Abdoul Ouattara to Ipswich Town, which are expected to generate approximately €60 million. Other incoming activity includes a €7 million deal for Portuguese winger Fabio Baldé from Hamburg SV.

Meanwhile, the club is managing interest from RB Leipzig regarding key players Samir El Mourabet and Diego Moreira, though Strasbourg maintains leverage due to their existing contracts. Following his arrival, Mitchell has received praise for his early performances in Ligue 1, including a notable first half against AS Monaco, with journalist Andrés Onrubia describing him as a “great signing” for the club.
