Regional mosquito control and disinfestation campaigns

Overview

Municipalities and public health authorities in various regions have initiated mosquito control and disinfestation campaigns to manage flying insects.

In Ragusa and Lugoj, authorities announced the commencement of third cycles of pest control. In Ragusa, nighttime treatments were scheduled for mid-August across Ragusa Ibla, San Giacomo, Marina di Ragusa, and Ragusa Superiore. In Lugoj, operations targeted stagnant water, dense vegetation, and riverbanks using Ministry of Health-approved insecticides.

In Croatia, mosquito control operations have continued through late August and September. In Varaždin, the County Institute of Public Health scheduled adulticide disinsection for August 24 and 25, occurring between 4:00 and 6:00 AM. Simultaneously, the company EKO-DERATIZACIJA planned extraordinary mosquito control in the Velika Gorica area from August 24 to 27. This operation utilized cold ULV fogging in the early morning hours to cover Velika Gorica, Gradić, Velika Mlaka, Ples, Klarići, and Ilovnjak.

Expanding these efforts, the city of Rijeka scheduled a three-day adulticide program from September 6 to September 8. Using the cold fogging method, treatments are set for late evening hours after 10:00 PM across numerous local committees, including Centar-Sušak, Krimeja, and Kantrida, among others. Authorities have advised residents to close windows and doors, and have urged beekeepers to keep bees inside hives during the procedure.
