Religious activities in the Netherlands

Overview

Religious organizations in the Netherlands have scheduled various events for late 2026. In October, the Sint Franciscusparochie planned an inspiration day in Den Bosch titled ‘Luisterend op weg’ to discuss synodality, church closures, and youth engagement. Following this, MissieNederland scheduled ‘De Grote Opdracht Dag’ for November 6 to address contemporary Christian mission through the ‘Five Marks of Mission’.

Commemorations for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day are widespread across the country. In addition to the previously noted prayer service at the Sint Petruskerk, various parishes are organizing services for November 1 and 2. Because All Saints' Day falls on a Sunday, many Old Catholic parishes are integrating celebrations into Sunday services. Specific activities include grave blessings at Sint Jozef cemetery in Amsterdam and Aalsmeer, and an open gathering for candle lighting and storytelling at St. Vitus church in Hilversum. Other memorial services and musical remembrances are scheduled for the Paradijskerk in Rotterdam, as well as churches in Delft, Alkmaar, IJmuiden, and Arnhem.

In Wagenborgen, a ‘Colors of Memory’ event is set for November 2 at the Hoofdweg cemetery, featuring white chrysanthemums, poetry, and musical performances by the In Corpore music association. Local churches in Zeeland (Sint Jacobuskerk), Venhorst (Heilige Jozefkerk), Uden (Sint Petruskerk), Boekel (Sint Agathakerk), and Odiliapeel (H. Kruisvindingkerk) are also hosting services to honor those who passed away between October 2025 and October 2026. These events coincide with a societal trend toward more private, modest farewells, such as smaller gatherings and quiet cremations.

In Deventer, the Rouwen & Vieren Kas is scheduled to operate at the Grote Kerkhof from December 16 to 27 to provide comfort for those experiencing various forms of loss.
