Religious pilgrimages and papal visit in Luján

Overview

The 52nd National Youth Pilgrimage to Luján continued through Sunday, October 4, with an estimated two million people participating in the event. Despite facing heavy rain and cold temperatures, devotees proceeded with the approximately 60-kilometer trek from the Sanctuary of San Cayetano in Liniers to the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján.

To support the massive mobilization, authorities maintained a large-scale assistance operation. This included 6,000 volunteers, mobile hospitals, medical personnel, ambulances, and police. Infrastructure such as chemical toilets, water stations, and food distribution points were established along the route to assist pilgrims traveling long distances to fulfill personal promises and seek blessings.

Under the theme ‘Mother, in your embrace we recognize each other as brothers,’ the pilgrimage serves as a spiritual precursor to the anticipated visit of Pope Leo XIV to Argentina in November. The event culminated with a central mass scheduled at the Basilica on Sunday.
