Renault strategic expansion and investment

Overview

Renault has initiated a new strategic era through its ‘FutuREady’ plan under CEO François Provost. This strategy follows the previous ‘Renaulution’ phase, which focused on cost reduction and stabilizing the company’s European presence. The new plan aims to capture market share in high-potential regions, specifically targeting growth in Brazil and India through strategic partnerships. As part of this industrial transformation, Renault Group has announced a 600 million euro investment in Spain scheduled between 2026 and 2030. This initiative will assign five new vehicle models to manufacturing plants in Valladolid and Palencia, including two C-segment electric vehicles. This marks the first time in the company’s 75-year history in Spain that it will produce fully electric vehicles at these locations. The Palencia plant will utilize the RGEV Medium 2.0 platform, featuring 800-volt technology and a range of up to 750 km (WLTP), while Valladolid will host a new assembly line for electric vehicle batteries. Expanding its European footprint, Provost has detailed plans to invest approximately 11 billion euros into Renault’s French operations over the next five years. This capital is earmarked for electric vehicle development and the creation of more affordable models for the mass market, provided that “social and political conditions remain favorable.” This follows a previous 13 billion euro investment period aimed at transforming industrial activities toward electric mobility. Renault expects French production to reach approximately 500,000 units in 2025, with a predicted 25 percent increase in 2026. This growth aligns with broader trends, such as electric vehicle registrations reaching 42 percent of all new car registrations in France in September 2026, and record EU-wide sales of 1.64 million units in the first eight months of the year. Addressing broader industry challenges, Provost has called on the European Union to manage the rapid influx of vehicle imports from China.
