Romania Rabla Auto 2026 funds rapidly depleted

The Rabla Auto 2026 programme opened on 20 July, offering subsidies for low‑emission cars, hybrids, electric vehicles and motorcycles. Within the first hour more than 11 000 requests were logged, including 1 293 for motorcycles. The 15 million‑lei motorcycle allocation was exhausted in nine minutes, prompting the Association of Importers and Distributors of Motorcycles and Scooters (AIDMM) to ask the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests and the Environmental Fund Administration to transfer 15 million lei from the car line to the motorcycle line. AIDMM reiterated the request on 23 July, stressing that the shortfall reflected demand, not insufficient funding, and noting a similar exhaustion in 2025.

On 31 July the Environmental Fund Administration reported that the electric‑car subsidy budget (about 120 million lei) was fully allocated after ten days, following 6 724 applications. Registrations for thermal and hybrid cars continued, with roughly 10 600 applications consuming about 120.7 million lei and leaving an estimated 44 million lei unspent. Altogether the programme has received 18 628 applications across all categories. Authorities are considering possible reallocation of unused car funds or additional allocations if beneficiaries relinquish their slots or a budget amendment is approved.
