Rush reunion and Fifty Something Tour
Overview
The rock band Rush is marking the 50th anniversary of their debut live album, ‘All the World’s a Stage’, originally released on September 29, 1976. The album, recorded during three nights in Toronto, captured a transitional phase for the band following the addition of drummer Neil Peart.
Following Peart’s death in 2020, founding members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson have reunited for the ‘Fifty Something’ tour, their first since 2015. The tour, which launched in mid-2026 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, features German-born drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold. Nilles, whom Lee discovered on YouTube, spent a year in Toronto rehearsing 40 complex classics to capture the essence of Peart’s style while adapting her own technique.
During rehearsals, Lee and Lifeson told Rolling Stone that they transitioned from correcting mistakes to a strategy of playing through mishaps to prepare for live unpredictability. This was tested during the opening night when Nilles dropped a drumstick during ‘Xanadu.’ Following the first four Los Angeles shows, Nilles reported feeling “energized and relieved” by the fan reception. The tour is scheduled to include a performance at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on January 15, 2027.
