Senegal DER/FJ economic and agricultural initiatives

Overview

The Délégation générale à l’Entrepreneuriat Rapide des Femmes et des Jeunes (DER/FJ) continues to expand its economic support and infrastructure initiatives in Senegal.

In the Louga region, the agency has provided 20.4 million FCFA to Economic Interest Groups (GIE) to strengthen income-generating activities, bringing the total amount made available through the Beyes program in the region to 91.2 million FCFA. Additionally, the DER/FJ has broken ground on a 300 million FCFA storage facility in Potou. This infrastructure, featuring 1,500 tonnes of dry and cold storage capacity, is designed to support the onion sector by reducing post-harvest losses and stabilizing market prices.

Regional expansion has accelerated through a five-day mission led by General Delegate Dr. Abdoulaye Niane, covering nine departments across northern and eastern Senegal. During this mission, the agency mobilized 1.557 billion FCFA to support 574 groups, reaching 11,840 beneficiaries. This funding was distributed primarily through the Nano-Crédit program, which provided 1.044 billion FCFA to 450 groups, and the BE YES program, which mobilized 213.2 million FCFA for 124 groups.

To ensure the sustainability of these financing systems, Dr. Niane announced a strategy in Matam to strengthen the role of umbrella organizations in the amicable recovery of loans, prioritizing dialogue and consultation over judicial routes. On a broader scale, the DER/FJ maintains international cooperation with the French Development Agency (AFD) to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Concurrently, the Fonds de garantie des investissements prioritaires (FONGIP) has launched a National Pact to address credit disparities for women entrepreneurs.
