Sesc RJ cultural activities in Petrópolis

Overview

Sesc RJ is expanding its cultural programming in Petrópolis through various artistic initiatives. The institution announced the inaugural Festival Sesc de Cinema – Petrópolis, scheduled to take place from May 22 to 29, 2027, at the Centro Cultural Sesc Quitandinha. This festival aims to expand Sesc RJ’s presence in the audiovisual sector through film exhibition, training, and industry promotion. The event will feature approximately 40 productions across five showcases, complemented by debates, workshops, filmmaker meetings, and business rounds. This initiative coincides with the planned opening of Sesc RJ’s first cinema hall in the state, also located at the Centro Cultural Sesc Quitandinha, expected in early 2027.

Submissions for three specific showcases—Andança, Olhar Fluminense, and Mirada Infanto-juvenil—are set to open on October 22, 2026, and will remain open until November 22, 2026. The Andança showcase is a competitive category for Brazilian short, medium, and feature films released after January 1, 2025.

Additionally, the dance production ‘Desenho do Tempo’, directed by Esther Weitzman, is scheduled to perform at Sesc Quitandinha on October 23 as part of the Sesc Pulsar 2026 program. The performance is part of a broader tour through the state of Rio de Janeiro.
