Shakira, FIFA, IMF aid Venezuela quake education

Overview

After the 2026 World Cup opening ceremony, Shakira leveraged the global stage to promote education for vulnerable children, channeling funds through her Pies Descalzos foundation and the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. The IMF tranche, separate from the country’s SDR allocation, is intended to complement the FIFA and Shakira donations, accelerating the restoration of education infrastructure and broader community stabilization.

The United Nations launched a flash response plan for 1.3 million severely affected people, seeking US$ 296 million for shelter, water, food, health services and logistics. Combined, these contributions illustrate a coordinated multi‑sector partnership—sport, entertainment and international finance—aimed at rebuilding Venezuela’s education system and supporting affected children across the region.
