Shooting Stars SC CAF Confederation Cup campaign

Overview

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) began the 2026/27 season with a 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos in the Nigeria Premier Football League opener, marking the club’s first opening-day win in four seasons.

Transitioning to continental competition, the club secured a 1-0 first-leg win against Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round. The winning goal, scored by Lucky Emmanuel in the 26th minute at the MKO Abiola Stadium, was the club’s first continental goal in 27 years. Following this performance, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde approved the release of two buses—a 32-seater and an 18-seater—to assist with logistical needs during the campaign. Technical adviser Salisu Yusuf noted that while the team displayed discipline and tactical organization, they missed several opportunities to extend their lead, suggesting the scoreline could have been higher if the players had been more clinical.

Following their arrival in Tunisia for the second leg at Stade Taieb Mhiri, the team has been staying in Sousse. While the squad utilized a beach recovery session to prepare, logistical tensions have emerged regarding training conditions. Shooting Stars Director of Football, Tobi Adepoju, reported that the club requested a natural grass pitch in Sfax and expressed a willingness to pay for its use, but was instead offered an artificial pitch. Adepoju noted a lack of cooperation, pointing out that CS Sfaxien was permitted to train at the match venue during the first leg in Nigeria. Despite these concerns, the team remains focused on defending their narrow advantage to secure progression.
