Siemens Mobility European rail contract expansion
Overview
Siemens Mobility has secured several major rail contracts and infrastructure agreements across Europe.
In late September 2026, the company entered an 11-year, €215 million framework agreement with Belgium’s Infrabel to modernize digital rail operations and cybersecurity. Simultaneously, Siemens agreed to supply 56 regional trains to BeNEX for Germany’s Mainfranken network and expanded research into automated rail technologies with the German Aerospace Center.
During the InnoTrans trade fair, Siemens expanded its order book through an agreement with DPB Rail for six additional multisystem Vectron locomotives, bringing their total fleet to 33 units. The company also secured vehicle orders designed for multi-country operations across corridors involving Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
In October 2026, a Siemens Mobility-led consortium won a tender in Romania to supply 23 new electric locomotives for passenger rail transport. Valued at approximately €154 million (roughly 764.4 million RON), the project was awarded by the Railway Reform Authority (ARF) following an evaluation of three competing bids. The locomotives will be equipped with European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) technology, capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h and hauling up to 16 passenger coaches. The contract also includes maintenance and repair services. Funded by the Modernisation Fund and the Romanian state budget, the initiative aims to replace high-emission rolling stock with low-carbon alternatives, with implementation expected to span 42 months.
