Signal light art festival in Prague
Overview
The 14th annual Signal Festival in Prague, themed ‘Dream On! Dreams and Visions’ (or ‘Dream On! Sny a vize’), took place from October 15 to October 18, 2026. The event featured 21 digital and light installations across 17 locations, including 13 free outdoor exhibits and eight immersive experiences within the paid ‘Signal INSIDE’ zone.
A major expansion extended the festival route beyond the city center to include the Dejvice and Bubeneč districts, stretching from the Troja-Podbaba shipping canal to the Dejvice Campus. Notable works in these areas included ‘Gate of Imagination’ by artist Cais near the National Technical Library, which utilized geometric shapes and light projections based on visitor-selected words, with ‘love’ being the most frequent choice.
The ‘Havel90’ project commemorated the 90th anniversary of former president Václav Havel’s birth, highlighted by Svitlana Reinish’s video mapping ‘Life in Truth’ on the Old Town Hall. This work, inspired by Havel’s 1978 essay ‘The Power of the Powerless’, marked the first time a woman created a video mapping for the festival. Other featured artists included Jan Kaláb, Aka Chang, Jim Campbell, Kurt Hentschläger, and the duo Laurie Anderson and Hsin-Chien Huang.
In addition to the visual displays, the Signal Forum international conference addressed themes of freedom and civil society. To manage visitor influx, local authorities advised the use of public transit, specifically the metro.
