Slipknot new album recording process
Overview
Slipknot members have provided updates regarding the band’s creative direction and recording progress for an upcoming studio album.
Guitarist Jim Root indicated that the band is experimenting with new musical approaches to avoid repetition, aiming for a less overproduced sound that avoids excessive guitar layering. Root described the recording atmosphere as ‘honest and true’ and ‘uneasy,’ noting a departure from the specific sounds of their early releases. He confirmed he will spend the remainder of the year in the studio establishing a new rig with various amplifiers and guitars.
Drummer Eloy Casagrande, who joined the group in 2024, has confirmed that the band is in the studio recording a large number of songs. Casagrande described the process as ‘natural and easygoing,’ stating that the group is focused on making ‘real music’ rather than prioritizing business interests or audience predictions. He noted that the band is not seeking to replicate the style of former drummers; instead, members including percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan have encouraged him to contribute his own personality and energy. This includes the potential incorporation of Casagrande’s Brazilian musical roots, as Crahan has suggested integrating Brazilian rhythms into the recordings.
Casagrande recently confirmed that he has completed recording his drum tracks, a process finished approximately one to two weeks ago. The songwriting for this eighth album began late last year through collaborative jamming sessions with Root and Crahan. The project, produced by Matt Wallace, marks the band’s first new material in three years and is the first to feature Casagrande following the departure of Sid Wilson.
