Slovakia STVR terrestrial broadcasting transition

Overview

Slovak public broadcaster STVR has officially transitioned its third multiplex (MUX 3) to the DVB-T2 standard, marking the end of nationwide terrestrial broadcasting using the older DVB-T system in Slovakia.

The transition affects the broadcasting of four main programs: Jednotka, Dvojka, STVR 24, and STVR Šport. Following the switch, these channels are now available in Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080).

While viewers using cable, satellite, IPTV, or internet services remain unaffected, those using traditional antennas may experience service interruptions. Households with older televisions or set-top boxes that do not support the DVB-T2 standard and the HEVC (H.265) codec will require hardware upgrades to continue receiving these free-to-air channels. Towercom recommends that viewers perform an automatic or manual channel re-scan to update their device settings.
