Solomon Adeola Ogun State governorship campaign
Overview
Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship, has cleared significant legal obstacles to his candidacy after four separate court cases intended to block his bid were withdrawn. Adeola has introduced a nine-pillar development framework titled ‘ITESIWAJU for Ogun State’. The acronym represents Infrastructure, Tourism and Culture, Economic Empowerment, Security and Welfare, Inclusive Growth and Well-being, Women, Youth and Poverty Eradication, Agriculture and Food Security, Job Creation and Industrialisation, and Urbanisation and Transparency. During a presentation of this plan to the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Adeola advocated for policy continuity, citing Lagos State as a model.
Political tensions have intensified following a lawsuit filed by former governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye in the Federal High Court in Abuja. The suit seeks a judicial review of Adeola’s past statutory declarations to verify the consistency of his declared state of origin. In response to these identity controversies, Adeola’s media adviser, Kayode Odunaro, clarified that the senator changed his name from Sulaimon Ogunleye to Solomon Adeola following a religious conversion from Islam to Christianity, describing it as a lawful personal decision made decades ago.
As the campaign progresses, Adeola, also known as ‘Yayi’, has emphasized consolidating the industrial and infrastructural foundations of the current administration while promising new improvements in aviation, agriculture, and maritime development. In the Ogun West Senatorial District, a coalition of young politicians has emerged to support his candidacy. Operating under groups such as the Yayi Youth Vanguard, Ogun Youths Pacesetters, and the Yayi Grassroot Alliance, the ‘Yewa Youth Project’ aims to mobilize the youth vote across the Yewaland region.
