South Korean AI and robotics ecosystem growth

In late July 2026, South Korean AI firms attracted significant capital and strategic support. SK Networks’ Phoenix Lab secured an $8 million seed round from Menlo Ventures to advance its Cheiron AI platform for drug-development, while logistics AI provider TechTacar raised a 180 billion-won follow-on round led by Altos Ventures and Naver D2SF to expand its Argo AI-driven fulfillment network across multiple continents.

A week later, SK Telecom hosted a roundtable with eight domestic physical-AI and robotics startups, linking their technologies with SK’s AI semiconductors, data-center capacity and digital-twin platforms. The collaboration aims to accelerate field trials in manufacturing, logistics and services, and to build robot-learning datasets, signalling a broader push to commercialise research-stage physical AI solutions and deepen South Korea’s AI ecosystem.

By mid-August, the momentum for AI and robotics expanded into government-backed research and development. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups selected the AI supply chain platform Tredlinx for a ‘Scale-up TIPS R&D’ project, providing approximately 2 billion KRW over three years to develop a ‘Multi-Agent’ AI system for logistics optimization. Additionally, 3D machine vision startup Clerobotics was chosen for the ‘Global TIPS R&D’ program, committing 6.2 billion KRW through 2030 to develop an integrated bin-picking platform for logistics and inspection markets.

These developments illustrate a coordinated effort by major South Korean conglomerates, venture investors, and government programs to fund, integrate and scale AI and robotics innovations across biotech, logistics and manufacturing sectors.
