Spanish law enforcement crackdown on counterfeit goods

Overview

Spanish law enforcement agencies have conducted multiple operations to combat the sale of counterfeit goods and illegal street vending across various regions.

In Marbella, police seized 40,000 counterfeit items between September 2025 and August 2026, focusing on beaches and promenades to address unauthorized food sales and unlicensed merchandise. Authorities issued 510 citations for various infractions related to illegal street commerce. Similarly, in Huelva, the Guardia Civil intercepted over 62,000 products—including electronics, clothing, and toys—with an estimated market value of nearly 7 million euros. These summer operations resulted in 36 investigations.

In Torrevieja, Alicante, enforcement has intensified throughout 2026. Following an October 6 seizure of 314 pairs of suspected counterfeit sneakers during a nighttime vehicle inspection, authorities reported that the total volume of intercepted merchandise for the year has reached nearly two tonnes. Since April 7, officers have confiscated approximately 1,550 kilograms of goods, distributed across 120 bundles, primarily along seafront promenades.

These seizures include roughly 5,000 individual items with an estimated illegal market value exceeding €100,000. Law enforcement has issued 35 seizure reports and initiated 11 investigations into suspected industrial property offenses. During special enforcement operations conducted between June and September, officers reported approximately 25 to 30 instances where sellers abandoned their merchandise and fled upon their arrival.
