Spanish regional cultural and cinema programming
Overview
Cultural programming in Spain is expanding through various regional initiatives focused on cinema and discussion.
In the Comunidad de Madrid, the Márgenes Festival and regional authorities launched ‘Márgenes en Ruta – Cine en Comunidad’, an itinerant program intended to decentralize cinematic activities across five locations. This initiative includes screenings of acclaimed works, such as Albert Serra’s documentary ‘Tardes de soledad’, which is scheduled for screening in Las Rozas on October 3, 2026.
Simultaneously, UNED cultural programs are broadening their reach. In Soria, the 33rd Cineclub edition, running from October 2026 through May 2027, will feature 47 titles, including cycles dedicated to Agnès Varda and José Luis Borau. Local programming in Soria also includes the ‘First Week of the Image’ at Cines Mercado, featuring works such as ‘La Jetée’ and ‘El fotógrafo de Minamata’. This event incorporates a ‘Tu foto es tu entrada’ initiative, allowing citizens to contribute to a collective photographic memory project.
In Melilla, the ‘La Casa de la Palabra’ initiative has rebranded to ‘La Casa de las Palabras’ to encompass more diverse disciplines, incorporating documentary films to facilitate discussions on social issues and women’s experiences. Meanwhile, in Jerez, the ‘Butaca de Oro’ film cycle, organized by the Ateneo de Jerez and the City Council, concludes with a screening of the comedy ‘@buelos’ at the Sala Compañía as part of the 25th Anniversary of the Week of Older Persons.
