Preparations for the 2026 State Fair of Texas in Dallas have included updates to the event’s mascot and the announcement of culinary competition winners.

In July, organizers revealed that the 55-foot mascot, Big Tex, will debut a new wardrobe for the upcoming fair. Following the conclusion of a partnership with Dickies that began in 1997, the mascot will be outfitted with a custom Western shirt from Cavender’s Boot City and a 95-gallon cowboy hat from Resistol. Jennifer Schuder, senior vice president of customer engagement for the fair, noted that the mascot represents “the spirit, hospitality, and traditions that make Texas unique.”

In August, the fair announced the winners of the 22nd annual Big Tex Choice Awards. The culinary competition, presented by Karbach Brewing Company, selected top entries from 15 finalists. Winners included Tom Grace for Best Taste - Savory (Burger Chop Tater Tacos), Beck Fletcher for Best Taste - Sweet (Fletcher’s Chocolate Corny Dog), Fruteria Cano for Best Taste - Sipper (Tropical Coco Fresca), and Stephen El Gidi for Most Creative (Berry Me in Matcha).

The fair is scheduled to run from September 25 to October 18, 2026, at Fair Park.
