Sud chiama Nord expands presence and defends national pact

Overview

The political movement Sud chiama Nord, led by Cateno De Luca, continues to expand its influence in Campania and Sicily.

In Campania, the movement is consolidating its organizational structure in the Irpinia region. During a convention in Avellino, De Luca emphasized the importance of territorial rooting, noting that the group is expanding beyond Sicily and Naples while evaluating future political alliances without committing to specific coalitions.

In Sicily, the movement is strengthening its position ahead of upcoming regional elections. In Agrigento, De Luca formalized the membership of Salvatore Fanara and Favara city councilors Gaspare Castronovo and Marianna Zambito. The expansion has reached the Palermo area, where De Luca secured the support of Filippo Tripoli, the mayor of Bagheria.

Recent growth has extended into the Trapani province. Salvatore Quinci, the president of the Free Consorzio of Trapani and Mayor of Mazara del Vallo, has officially joined the movement, describing the move as the start of a “new political phase.” Other notable additions include Francesco Stabile, the Mayor of Valderice, Catia Bucaria, and Livio Daidone.

Following these expansions, political tensions have emerged regarding a national pact between Sud chiama Nord and Fratelli d’Italia. Regional coordinator Danilo Lo Giudice defended the agreement against criticisms from center-left forces such as Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra and Progetto Civico-Controcorrente. Lo Giudice clarified that the national pact does not change the movement’s current stance in Sicily, where it remains in opposition to President Renato Schifani, and suggested De Luca participate in upcoming center-left primaries.
