Swachhata Hi Seva cleanliness campaign

The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ cleanliness campaign has been implemented through various regional and international initiatives.

In Ghana, the Indian High Commission organized a large-scale cleanup at Ananse Beach in Nungua. Supported by hundreds of volunteers and the Indian community, the drive removed tonnes of waste to promote environmental protection. Alongside the cleanup, diplomatic efforts were made to strengthen bilateral ties through discussions regarding parliamentary cooperation and youth empowerment.

Within India, the 2026 campaign has seen widespread activity. In the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the campaign commenced across all nine blocks on September 17. In alignment with International Coastal Clean-up Day, community-led drives at six rural beaches collected approximately two tonnes of waste, including plastic, glass, and metal, alongside tree plantation efforts at a new eco-friendly park.

In Gujarat, government offices are participating in a month-long assessment from September 17 to October 17. Led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, this 100-mark evaluation focuses heavily on the disposal of scrap, e-waste, and unused materials, which accounts for 50 percent of the total score. The initiative also targets the disposal of pending files and record classification to improve efficiency across Secretariat, district, and taluka levels.

In Northeast India, NEIGRIHMS in Shillong has been conducting awareness programs since September 17, including school cleanliness drives, poster competitions, and health camps for sanitation workers. Meanwhile, in Nagaland, urban and rural departments in the Zunheboto and Phek districts are observing the campaign. In Zunheboto, the Aghunato Town Council held meetings to promote hygiene and discuss the necessity of improved waste disposal infrastructure, such as public toilets and dustbins.
