Synastria art and astronomy exhibition in Athens
Overview
The National Library of Greece will host ‘Synastria’ (also referred to as ‘Synastry’), a multidimensional cultural project running from September 16 to October 4, 2026. Conceived by Lefteris Moysiadis and curated by Kostas Prapoglou, the initiative explores the relationship between humanity and the cosmos through art, poetry, and scientific observation.
The exhibition features works from 20 visual artists inspired by constellations and planets, alongside contributions from 13 contemporary Greek poets. The program is supported by rare manuscripts and books on cosmography, astronomy, and astrology from the library’s special collections.
In addition to the central venue at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the project will expand across Athens to create a ‘star map’ of the city. Activities include stargazing at the National Observatory of Athens, space flight simulations at the Eugenides Foundation Planetarium, and poetic events at the Arsakeio Stoas.
At the National Observatory, sculptor Kostas Varotsos has presented his work ‘Selene’, which aims to create a dialogue between terrestrial materials and celestial bodies. The program also includes interactive space tours and poetic readings, such as a special event scheduled under the full moon on September 26.
