Tajikistan 35th independence anniversary celebrations

Tajikistan is marking the 35th anniversary of its state independence through a series of national and diplomatic ceremonies. In Dushanbe, President Emomali Rahmon addressed a gathering at the National Theatre, characterizing independence as a “fundamental pillar of modern statehood” and reflecting on the nation’s transition from the civil war of the early 1990s to its present stability. During a scientific forum organized by the Payvand Association, President Rahmon advocated for increased cultural, scientific, and intellectual cooperation among Tajiks and Persian-speaking populations worldwide, emphasizing the necessity of spiritual and cultural solidarity. As celebrations continued, President Rahmon addressed the nation regarding the country’s journey of nation-building, stressing the importance of maintaining peace and social stability to ensure sustainable progress. The anniversary also featured the inauguration of a new National Stadium in Dushanbe. With a seating capacity of 30,000, the facility is intended to serve as a hub for football development and a venue for major international and regional sporting events. On the global stage, President Rahmon noted Tajikistan’s contributions to international security, specifically referencing the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the ‘International Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations, 2027–2036’, an initiative proposed by Tajikistan. He reaffirmed a commitment to an “open-door” foreign policy, noting that Tajikistan maintains diplomatic relations with 186 countries. Domestically, the President announced that the nation is on track to achieve energy independence by 2027 through investments in hydropower and solar capacity, including the modernization of the Nurek Hydropower Plant. Additionally, President Rahmon commissioned 15 new infrastructure facilities, including educational and security centers, across several districts as part of a large-scale development program. International leaders have extended congratulations to the nation.
