TEFAF Maastricht jewelry heist investigation

Overview

Dutch authorities and Europol are seeking five Serbian nationals suspected of involvement in a multi-million euro jewelry heist at the TEFAF art fair in Maastricht, which occurred on June 28, 2022. The suspects, identified as Aleksandar Cenić (50), Aleksandar Stojiljković (50), Duško Dimitrijević (50), Bratislav Stojanović (41), and Ninoslava Jović (41), allegedly used hammers to smash armored cases to steal valuables, including a necklace and a yellow diamond.

Estimates of the stolen jewelry value range from 27 million to 40 million euros. While investigators have recovered three stolen diamonds in Botswana, Israel, and Hong Kong, the primary suspects remain at large. Authorities believe the group may be hiding in or around Niš or Belgrade, Serbia. Ninoslava Jović is specifically accused of playing a facilitating role by assisting the escape of the other suspects. Security footage reportedly captured her driving one of the getaway vehicles.

Investigators suspect the group may be linked to the Pink Panther criminal organization. During the robbery, suspects reportedly used hammers to smash display cases and threatened bystanders with firearms before fleeing on electric scooters and other vehicles. The perpetrators were noted for wearing tailored suits and flat caps, a style described as reminiscent of the “Peaky Blinders.”

The investigation has utilized decrypted messages from the Sky ECC encrypted communication platform. To aid in their capture, the Limburg prosecutor’s office is offering a 20,000 euro reward, while an insurance company is offering 600,000 euros for information regarding the stolen jewelry.
