Tour de France 2027 route and regulations

Overview

The official routes for the 2027 Tour de France men’s and women’s editions have been unveiled by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO). The men’s race will feature a Grand Départ in Edinburgh, Scotland, on July 2, marking the fifth time in six years the event has started outside of France and the first time it has started in Scotland.

The opening stages will take place in Great Britain before the peloton returns to France: the first stage covers 185 km from Edinburgh to Carlisle, England; the second runs from Keswick to Liverpool; and the third travels from Welshpool to Cardiff in Wales. The men’s race is scheduled to conclude on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on July 25, with a final stage that includes a climb through Montmartre.

The route will feature 71 km of individual time trials, including specific stages in Blois and Toulouse, representing the highest distance for this discipline since 2012. The total distance for the 114th edition is 3,479 kilometers with 53,450 meters of cumulative elevation gain. Key mountain stages include climbs such as the Grand Colombier, Les Saisies, and a Pyrenean stage featuring the Col du Portet.

The women’s Tour de France will begin in Leeds, England, on July 30, 2027. The route will travel through Manchester, Sheffield, and London—which includes an 18km team time trial—before crossing the Channel to the Opal Coast. The race will then head south through the Massif Central, concluding with a final stage at the Puy de Dôme volcano on August 7. Prior to the official announcement, unofficial maps circulated on social media. While some details aligned with the confirmed start in Edinburgh and stages in Liverpool and Cardiff, other claims, such as a stage in Saint-James, were identified as inaccurate and had been rejected by local officials.
