Tour de l’Avenir cycling race in France

The 62nd edition of the Tour de l’Avenir, an international cycling race for riders under 23, is scheduled for August 20 to August 26, 2026. Often described as the ‘Tour de France for youth’ or ‘Tour de France Espoirs’, the event is expected to cover a total distance of 926 km across seven stages.

The race will feature approximately 25 international teams, including 150 riders and over 500 staff and organizers, supported by roughly 200 volunteers. The event is expected to be broadcast globally via L’Équipe and Eurosport in 200 countries.

In Ouistreham, the event will mark its first time being hosted in the commune. The departure will take place on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with the route traveling from Boulevard Aristide Briand through Lion-sur-Mer and Colleville-Montgomery, eventually passing the Pegasus Bridge. The first stage will run from Ouistreham Riva Bella to Argentan, passing through the Calvados region via Barou-en-Auge.

Saint-Vallier has been selected to host key segments of the race. The town will serve as the finish line for the third stage, Vierzon – Saint-Vallier (232 km), on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The following day, Saint-Vallier will host the start of the fourth stage, Saint-Vallier – Semur-en-Auxois (131 km).
