Tuna Tunca Ocean’s Seven swimming attempts

Overview

Turkish ultra marathon swimmer Tuna Tunca successfully completed the 35-kilometer Catalina Channel swim in California, USA, as part of the Ocean’s 7 series. The attempt, which took place between September 1-2, saw Tunca reach Smuggler’s Cove in 11 hours, 3 minutes, and 20 seconds.

During the crossing, Tunca navigated significant environmental challenges, including darkness, high waves, kelp seaweed reaching up to 50 meters in height, strong currents, and cold water temperatures. Under the guidance of coach Mert Onaran, Tunca employed a strategic nutrition and pacing plan to manage the course.

This achievement marks the fourth leg of the Ocean’s 7 series, following his successful crossings of the English Channel, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the North Channel. A member of the İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyespor Kulübü, Tunca has since returned to Turkey. He aims to complete the remaining three legs—the Molokai Channel, Tsugaru Strait, and Cook Strait—to become the second Turkish athlete to finish the series.
