Turkish economic growth and stability targets

Overview

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has outlined several economic growth and stability targets for the country. During a summit organized by the Confederation of Turkish Employer Associations, Yılmaz set long-term goals to increase national income to over $2.2 trillion and raise per capita income to $25,000, while aiming to boost goods and services exports to $450 billion.

To manage inflation, the government is utilizing monetary, fiscal, and supply-side policies, with a target to reduce inflation to 21% next year. Yılmaz noted that regional conflicts and wars have contributed approximately 7 percentage points to inflation. Support measures include a 150% increase in the social housing allowance budget—raising it from 100 billion TL to 250 billion TL—and investments in irrigation for food security exceeding 100 billion TL. He also expressed intentions to bring the current account deficit below 2% next year.

In recent visits to Osmaniye, Sinop, and Bilecik, Yılmaz projected that Turkey’s national income would reach $1.8 trillion this year, up from $238 billion in 2002. He noted that exports have reached approximately $280 billion, with total goods and services exports projected to exceed $400 billion by year-end and tourism revenues expected to hit $65 billion.

Linking economic stability to political security, Yılmaz and Justice Minister Akın Gürlek emphasized the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ initiative. Yılmaz estimated that terrorism has imposed an economic burden of at least $2.3 trillion over several decades. Additionally, Yılmaz highlighted the completion of the Osmaniye section of the Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep high-speed railway project to reduce logistics costs.
