Turkish industrial and manufacturing sector growth
Overview
Turkish officials have reported significant advancements in the nation’s industrial capacity, particularly within the foundry and steel sectors. At the 76th World Foundry Congress, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat noted that Turkey’s foundry production capacity has reached 3 million tons, making it the second-largest producer in Europe and seventh globally. The sector, which serves industries such as defense, aerospace, and automotive, saw exports totaling 6.1 billion euros in 2025.
At the ANKIROS 2026 Fair, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that the number of Organized Industrial Zones has expanded to 374. He highlighted the resilience of the Turkish steel sector, which maintains an annual production capacity of 62 million tons, positioning Turkey as the largest steel producer in Europe. Despite a 2% contraction in global crude steel production due to weak demand and protectionist measures, the Turkish sector has diverged positively from global trends. The casting industry reported a turnover of approximately 8 billion euros last year.
Minister Bolat further stated that Turkey has become the leading producer of crude steel in Europe with a production volume of 38.1 million tons, ranking seventh globally. Turkey is also among the world’s top ten steel exporters, generating $17.1 billion in export value, with 42.3% of exports directed toward the European Union. To sustain this growth, the government is utilizing the Turkey Green Industry Project, the ‘Responsible Program’ for green transformation, and the Central Bank’s Investment Committed Advance Loan Program, which has allocated 750 billion lira to support strategic industrial investments.
