Turkish municipal infrastructure and accessibility upgrades

Turkish municipalities are undertaking various infrastructure and digital upgrades to improve urban services and accessibility.

In Antalya, efforts focus on enhancing public transportation for visually impaired passengers through the installation of Braille alphabet signs, QR codes, tactile paving, and ramps. Bursa is integrating the ‘Engelsiz Bursa’ application into its mobile platform to allow disabled passengers to communicate specific travel needs to drivers. Other localized improvements include smart intersections in Talas and new seating at tram stops in Kocaeli.

Regional road and construction projects continue to expand across several provinces. In Balıkesir, the Altıeylül district’s Savaştepe Street has undergone major renovation; following rainwater drainage upgrades by BASKİ, the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality applied 6,200 tons of double-layer hot asphalt over a 2,200-meter stretch.

In Manisa, investments are being directed toward educational infrastructure in Soma, Kırkağaç, and Akhisar through school restorations and new classroom construction. Road works are also being conducted in Sarıgöl to facilitate grape harvesting, while Soma is receiving an 8-kilometer stretch of surface coating.

Additional maintenance and renewal efforts are reported in other regions, including asphalt renewal in Hacılar, Kayseri, and superstructure works in Bolu’s Beşkavaklar and Paşaköy neighborhoods. In Kahramanmaraş, the Lütfi Köker Boulevard is undergoing a multi-stage renovation that includes asphalt application, junction adjustments, and modernized lighting systems.
