Turkish political party alliance negotiations

Turkish political figures and parties are actively exploring new alliance models to navigate the current Presidential Government System and upcoming elections.

Initially, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Gürsel Tekin expressed a willingness to form alliances with any party except the People's Alliance, advocating for a transition from the current system to a parliamentary model to strengthen democracy.

Following these calls for cooperation, various political groups have begun intensifying negotiations in Ankara. Potential coalitions are being discussed between the Yeniden Refah, DEVA, and Saadet parties, with talks expected to conclude by October. Other groups, including İYİ Parti, Zafer Partisi, and the Anahtar Parti, are also seeking to form groupings to overcome electoral thresholds. Additionally, leaders from several other parties, including the Adalet Partisi and Bağımsız Türkiye Partisi, have scheduled meetings to coordinate actions based on shared republican and secular values.

Recent developments show intensifying debates regarding specific bloc scenarios. Rumors have emerged of a nationalist alliance involving the Zafer, Milli Yol, Independent Turkey (BTP), Kutlu, and Anahtar parties. Following a meeting between leaders of five of these parties in Ankara, Milli Yol Party leader Remzi Çayır indicated that such an alliance remains a possibility.

In contrast, İYİ Parti has maintained distance from these potential coalitions, expressing opposition to “alliance impositions.” Party officials noted that several parties involved in nationalist rumors were formed by former İYİ Parti members, suggesting they should join İYİ Parti directly if they seek unity.

Meanwhile, shifts are occurring within the Yeni Yol Group in Parliament, comprising the DEVA, Gelecek, and Saadet parties. After a member departed for the AKP, the group fell below the required parliamentary threshold, leading the CHP to intervene by including one of its deputies in the group.
