This withdrawal follows similar exits from Ivory Coast and Tanzania and occurs amid economic challenges in the region, such as President Bola Tinubu’s reforms in Nigeria which increased costs for fuel and vehicle maintenance.

In Nigeria, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has launched an investigation into the exit. FCCPC Chief Executive Officer Tunji Bello stated the commission is examining whether Uber fulfilled outstanding obligations to customers, including unfulfilled services, pending payments, or unresolved transactions. Uber has maintained its Help Centre until September 23 to address such matters.
